Moving my CLW SS880 up a few ratchet clicks, several small notches every few days, keeping the distance at a safe height, preventing bleaching, burning or overvheat.

If these thread intrusions are not being removed, by the Powers that be, we can simply bury them. With a grave marker.

Getting back to the topic, bright sunlight at noon is about a thousand watts per square meter, which works out to around 93 watts per square foot. Your 600W lamp in a 3x3 space averages out to 66W/ft^2, so you are right in the ball park for some seriously dank flowers, however, indoor enclosures by nature have hot spots (right under the light) and cold spots (the farthest corners). One solution with metal halide or sodium vapor lights is a light mover. By moving the light, you can even out the lighting, minimize shading and provide more light for the lower canopy. Another benefit is the lamp can be closer to the growing tips since it's moving and not just baking one spot. You could expand your grow to 3 x 6 with a light mover, too, resulting in twice the harvest for same amount of electricity. The drawback is light movers aren't cheap, and being mechanical devices, they need periodic maintenance. My experience has been that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

I have raised my SS880 ten clicks on the pair of ratchet hangers.
