Twice the Bud for Half the Light!
“You can use half the light and achieve the same harvest,” said James, an astute looking man with a cat that ate the canary look as he puffed on a spliff the size of a big Cuban cigar.
“You are joking,” I winced, “but I will hear you out if you pass me that spliff.” After a short conversation, during which he made a few simple grow room drawings on the back of a brochure, I was convinced that he was on to something very, very interesting. “This looks good on paper and sounds too good to be true. I must see proof before sharing this with HIGH TIMES GROW AMERICA readers. They are a very demanding lot!” I said. James whipped out his cell phone and quickly made two appointments with growers for the following day in Southern Netherlands.
We met the next morning, had coffee, a few tokes of Citral and jumped into a panel delivery truck packed with electrical and hydroponic supplies. We pulled into a typical Dutch driveway and disappeared behind an automatic garage door. The home looked no different than any other in the neighborhood until we climbed the stairs to the attic grow room.

“Heat is a big problem here because the grow room is just below the roof. We had to do something to keep the room cool but not use any more electricity. What we found costs less and works better!” asserted James with a twinkle in his eye.
HID light generates heat that can cause many problems in a grow room. The mean temperature should stay around 75 degrees F. during the day and no less than 55 degrees F. at night for best results. Daytime temperatures in the room climbed as high as 90 degrees F., which caused irregular nutrient uptake and slow growth. The high temperatures also caused buds to exude more pungent odors, which could alert neighbors to the grow show.
