The Fifth Edition of the former Indoor Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor Bible was originally published in 1983, when it immediately became a best-seller. More than 500,000 copies of The Indoor Bible are in print in Dutch, English, French, German, and Spanish.
New greenhouse and outdoor growing chapters make this new edition a book indoor and outdoor growers will keep under thumb. These two new chapters complement the existing fi fteen chapters, which have been rewritten, signifi cantly expanded, and updated with the most current information. Dr. John McPartland contributed a new medical section, and ten cannabis web sites were profi led. All chapters pertaining to plant growth—seeds, seedlings, clones, vegetative growth, fl owering, and harvesting—doubled or tripled in length and detail. Hydroponic and organic growing sections are new and greatly expanded. The twentynine-page “Hash and Oil Making” chapter explains dry-sieve and water hash production in simple, pictorial detail. The thirty-page “Breeding” chapter, written by expert breeder Chimera from Chimera Seeds, is straightforward and easy for all growers to understand and apply.
According to the author, about forty percent of the text from the Fourth Edition was adapted for the new Bible. More pages and images, a new condensed typeface that allows twice as many words per page, and new research make the Fifth Edition a completely new book rather than a simple rewrite.
The book’s credits list more than three hundred contributors and reads like a who’s who in the world of cannabis cultivation. Any grower, casual or serious, will fi nd hours of instruction and indispensable, triedand-true help within the Bible’s pages.

We all worked very hard to make this the best cannabis cultivation guide possible. The artists, Chris Payaso and Chris Valdes, made this book shine! The meticulous work by Linda Meyer, kept the text in line and all the facts checked. Jorge spent countless hours travelling and taking photographs at hundreds of gardens. We had to select more than 1000 photographs from an archive of 40, 000. It was not an easy job. Many, many growers and breeders were consulted and interviewed. The layout and design was coordinated between three continents among four very talented professionals. The Internet made it all possible!
Digital cameras and new computer-controlled presses make this book possible. It is absolutely amazing to me that this book started in 1982 on a portable K-Pro computer (remember CPM?) and was first printed on a Multilith 1250 offset press. Today it is printed in Asia on the newest presses in the world!
The completeness of this book is one of the major milestones. The medical cannabis section is much larger than the last. We are doing more medical research now. The color photography is unparalleled and abundant and the price is reasonable. Printing in Asia meant that we had to send the job to print in July 2005 and not see finished books until Christmas! This is the cost of quality information at a fair price. We hope to raise the bar with this book so that all cannabis books will be required to contain well-researched information and quality color photographs and drawings that sell for a fair price.
We are now translating it into Spanish, German and Italian. These editions will be available late 2006.

The new Bible is the absolute best that we could make. The Fifth Edition of the Bible has already amazed everybody that has seen it. When I went to the High Life Cannabis Fair in Amsterdam this winter (Jan 2006) the new Bible was a big hit. I gave away several copies to contributors and three of them were stolen within the first 30 minutes! Seems everybody wants a copy!
The color photographs and drawings are the reasons people like this book so much. Even though it has more words than ever before, they are easier to read when accompanied by beautiful buds. The Nikon D100 camera was fundamental to make this book happen. Quality digital photographs are easy to catalog and manoeuver with computer programs. We also scanned about 100 slides taken with the Nikon F90X to include in the book. Most of the photos were taken by me. However, my good Latin counterpart from the South took many of the outstanding bud photographs and many other shots. He also shoots a Nikon and has turned in some of the most outstanding work in this book. Other photos were contributed by several of my Spanish compatriots as well as others, outstanding work!
The gardens! The growers who nursed their little ladies and some lofty males to maturity must be saluted! They put up with me coming in and taking photos along with asking countless questions about their practices. The best part is that they all loved talking about growing and sharing their experiences. Every grow room, greenhouse, guerrilla patch, backyard or patio garden I visit, I feel more certain that more cannabis will be grown worldwide next year than this year!
The hash section is a relatively new addition. The Fourth Edition had a single page about hashish. The new Fifth Edition has a complete chapter 32-page chapter on making hash from your harvest. Both dry sieve and water hash extraction methods are covered in detail. There are so many new innovations with this book that it would take too long to talk about them here. Just pick up a copy and see for yourself.
In the last 23 years of public life in the cannabis book trade, I have seen many patterns in the way the cannabis growing industry develops. First it expanded from West Coast USA to BC, Canada. Then to Holland, and later across Canada, Australia and the USA – then to Germany – later it expanded to the UK, Spain and France. Now it is moving into central Europe, Japan and Latin America. The most consistent pattern that I have seen is that of expansion. Once the industry moves into an area it always expands.
